interesting stories

so, i went on a friend's msn space today only to find these 2 cool stories. i'm ripping them off to post here. i hope they kinda make u think a bit too =)

Everyone's A Cracked Pot

A water bearer in India had two large pots, each hung on each end of a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it, and while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water at the end of the long walk from the stream to the master's house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

For a full two years this went on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water in his master's house. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments.

But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do. After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream.

"I am ashamed of myself, and I want to apologize to you."
"Why?" asked the bearer. "What are you ashamed of?"
"I have been able, for these past two years, to deliver only half my load because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your master's house. Because of my flaws, you have to do all of this work, and you don't get full value from your efforts," the pot said. The water bearer felt sorry for the old cracked pot, and in his compassion he said, "As we return to the master's house, I want you to notice the beautiful flowers along the path."

Indeed, as they went up the hill, the old cracked pot took notice of the sun warming the beautiful wild flowers on the side of the path, and this cheered it some. But at the end of the trail, it still felt bad because it had leaked out half its load, and so again the pot apologized to the bearer for its failure.

The bearer said to the pot, "Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of your path, but not on the other pot's side? That's because I have always known about your flaw, and I took advantage of it. I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back from the stream, you've watered them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate my master's table. Without you being just the way you are, he would not have this beauty to grace his house."

How Rich Are You?

One day a rich father took his son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose to show him how poor people can be. They spent a day and a night on the farm of a very poor family.

When they got back from their trip the father asked his son, "How was the trip?"

"Very good Dad!"

"Did you see how poor people can be?" the father asked.

"Yeah!"

"And what did you learn?"

The son answered, "I saw that we have a dog at home, and they have four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of the garden, they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lamps in the garden, they have the stars. Our patio reaches to the front yard, they have a whole horizon."

When the little boy was finishing, his father was speechless.

His son added, "Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are!"

The first one was pretty cool. lol, pots talking blows my mind. The second one on the other hand makes less sense because his family actually owns the lamps and the patio, whereas the poor people don't own the stars not the horizon, so they are still the poor ones! And, they probably can't feed their dog as well as the rich people can, so they may have four dogs, but those dogs are probably less healthy! So really I don't agree with it. OH well.

lolz, shannon, u always have an interesting point. but i think what the story was really tryna say was that the dad got too caught up in the material things that he didn't really appreciate the nature around him. Ie. why own a pool, when u can have a creek around your house? why go buy pretty lamps when the stars are such a beautiful, natural sight. haha i dunno. it's all good. =)

I liked the first story because it shows "every cloud has a silver lining". I liked this story better because it flowed nicely and I was able to wrap my imagination around it in more colour and detail.

I liked the second story because it shows the perspective of the innocent child, without bias; how the true beauty of life can be recognized when the heart is pure and still untainted by the ideas of money.

Oh and shannon, I think it's more that you don't own the stars and the horizon because you don't need to own something materialistic to make your life better. You don't have one healthy and tamed dog, but four that you share your love with, in such hardships during life, making the relationship that much more special. It's all good.
